How does one describe the Mongol Rally?

The Mongol Rally can be bit of a tricky event to describe to folk. It is quite a unique event.

After trying to best put it into words, I usually hear something like:
“What? So you’re driving 10’000 miles, in a Nissan Micra, to Mongolia, with no back-up/support/set route, then you donate the car to charity?!”

The answer is a resounding “Yes“.

This usually results in one of the following three responses:

a) “Awesome, can I come too?”

b) A quiet, discerning look of pity. (They’re thinking “Mad, mad, you’re mad, you’re doomed!”)

c) The inevitable question “Why don’t you do it in a 4×4?”

A 4×4!
It would be considerably easier, but what would be the fun in that?

Therefore I make no excuse for re-posting this fantastic little video, which hopefully sums it up nicely & explains why I am ridiculously giddy about this summer…
